Reentering the Political Fray

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on here. But I find myself reacting to political things on Twitter, and that takes 5-6 tweets. So let me try to warm up my old political muscle with my thoughts on the current GOP field.

First of all as a recovering Republican and currently a small-l libertarian, let me make clear what I’m looking for in a candidate:

1. The candidate must seek to reduce the size and scope of government in all aspects. For GOP candidates, this means the defense budget, the state of perpetual wars (terror and drug), and fewer intrusions into personal choices across the board, including freedom of movement over our borders (which means actually fixing immigration).
2. Not that pair of fucking clown shoes known as trump (who doesn’t even deserve his name capitalized).

So with that in mid, let’s rank my choices:

1. Rand Paul – He’s probably the only libertarian-ish candidate up there, with a record of opposing the growth of government (including defense), the inanity of the drug war (sort of),  is the loudest voice against government spying, and isn’t batshit crazy for building border walls and deporting people. As a libertarian candidate, he’s fairly weak, getting too many GOP talking points at times. Still, beggars can’t be choosers when looking at the rest.
2. Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Ben Carson, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker – These are all decent conservatives, appear genuinely thoughtful, and probably representative of the better part of the GOP. However, there are too many “Build a Wall”, “Kill the Terrorists”, “spend more on x” opinions for me to support any of them. That does not mean I won’t consider them when it comes to the general election, depending on how they try to play when it comes to the country in general.
3. Jeb Bush – Like the above, but no more Bushes in the White house, so I won’t vote for another Bush. Period.
4. John Kasich – Currently my state’s Governor (OHIO!!!!). He and his party actively fucked the Libertarian party so as to eliminate the Gubernatorial candidate. Will not vote for him for this reason alone. Otherwise, he’d be in group 2 right now.
5. Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, Lindsey Graham – These guys are fairly repugnant in their views, are clearly anti-libertarian, and have no problem unleashing the hordes of government on their pet issues. Better they all be made to lick santorum (the substance, not the candidate) than be anywhere near the nomination
6. That pair of fucking clown shoes, who I will not name again – I don’t give a shit what comes out of his blather-hole. I actually blocked him on Twitter so I wouldn’t have to look at retweets of his shit. What he says doesn’t matter, because he is in this for himself. I would vote for the Democrat candidate if he was the GOP choice. He is everything wrong with the GOP in one bad combover of a joke candidate. Fuck him up his stupid ass with Obama’s right arm.

So there it is. I’ll try to narrow down some of the reasons I’m ditching the party of Reagan (who, FYI GOP candidates, was definitely not anti-immigration) again, and what they need to do to maybe get me to vote for them again.
